Carrum Bowling Club excelling in Junior Bowls

by Team BV

Carrum Bowling Club continues to excel in junior bowls. The Junior Squad known as the Longbeach Crackerjacks have concluded their second championship for 2018, the U12 Triples competition. 15 players took part and it was the “Rosegold” team of Keira, Anke and Melissa that prevailed by 2 points. Four teams played six matches over five weeks, commencing in mid-April. The competition ran primarily during Carrum BC’s Friday night After School Program.

Carrum BC held a Presentation Ceremony on June 1st to celebrate the achievements of their Junior Squad. The ceremony was attended by State MP Sonya Kilkenny, Bowls Australia and Bowls Victoria representatives, club members and parents.
The Friday night After School Program is held every week at 5pm and offers juniors an hour of free coaching and free use of bowls. The program helps junior bowlers build confidence, make friends outside their social group and get to know other generations. Carrum BC have also built relationships with 15 Secondary Schools and 10 Primary Schools and run inter-school competitions.

Carrum Bowling Club has introduced 950 local children to bowls in the last two years. This has contributed to the Club becoming the second fastest growing club in Metropolitan Melbourne, with a membership increase of 40% in four years.
