Under 25 State Singles 2018
The Under 25 Women’s State Singles final at State Champions Week is set to be one of the marquee matches of the 2018 event at Bendigo.
Last year’s triple State champion and Steller Vic Open champ Kylie Whitehead (Wodonga) will take on teenage prodigy Kira Bourke (Ocean Grove) in what shapes to be a State Champions Week highlight.
Bourke, 15, is already a National and State underage champion and one of the most exciting young prospects in Australian bowls, playing under Commonwealth Games medallist Matthew Flapper’s guidance at Ocean Grove.
Whitehead was dominant at 2017 State Champions Week amid a remarkable year in which she also won the national women’s singles title at Merimbula.
Whitehead is also the defending State Under 25 women’s champion, and had to beat last year’s finalist Tiffany Brodie (Clayton) in the semi-final this year at Burwood District BC.
Bourke beat rising Eastern Ranges star Kirsten Day (Yarra Glen) 25-14 in their semi-final to set up the clash with Whitehead.
In the men’s final, Steller Vic Open men’s pairs champion Jay Bye-Norris (Essendon) will take on Ryan Davies (Corowa Civic).
Both won through their knockout rounds at Burwood District.
