WHO WANTS TO BE A SELECTOR?
One of the most thankless tasks in a bowls club can be the role of selector, or if you dare, even chairman of selectors.
The grumbles, the wailing wall, the egos, the rumours and the fictional stories of how well you’ve played all make the role of the selector an interesting one.
Soon many selectors and committees will be faced with selection for finals and managing the possibilities of their sides avoiding relegation.
What should happen? The BV Conditions of Play for Pennant (BV CoP) states that up until the last four games of the season there are no restrictions on the interchange of players between the sides of a club.
However from Round 15 of any pennant competition, no side can include more than three players who have played the majority of their games in a higher numbered side.
Now it’s your chance to be a selector.
It’s finals time and you have to work out who can play where.
The Pennant Conditions of Play set out the rules around finals qualification.
Firstly you must play four games in the pennant competition to be included in the finals. You must play four or more games in the same division to qualify for finals participation and this can be in any division or divisions. Unless you’ve qualified to play finals in that division you can play higher than the division you qualified for.
The club is Utopia BC and they have six sides. Premier, Division 1,2,3,4 and 5
The club keeps weekly records and here is a collection of some of the players’ records.
So now you’re a selector and you have all the ground rules.
Let’s see if you can determine who is qualified to play and at with which team at Utopia BC.
