20 years of fun and friendship

by Team BV

The upcoming Week of Bowls (WOB) Carnival in Paynesville marks the 20th anniversary of this popular event run by the Paynesville Bowling Club.

Since its establishment, WOB has attracted thousands of bowlers from throughout the Gippsland Region, other Victorian clubs and regular attendees from New South Wales and Queensland.

A feature of the carnival is the very friendly yet competitive environment, where many existing friendships are renewed and new friendships made. The increased number of visitors to Paynesville is also a welcome boost to the local economy.

This year promises to be better than ever, with a packed five-day program of bowls and social activities. WOB kicks off with a welcome barbecue on Sunday 11 February and concludes on Friday 16 February.

And the importance of the event to the local community has been recognised, with Paynesville receiving this year’s Australia Day Award for Paynesville Community Event of the Year.

The award was presented by the Paynesville Business and Tourism Association and supported by East Gippsland Shire.
