Successful start for Bowling With Babies
Bowls Victoria in partnership with VicHealth and thanks to funding from the Active Women and Girls for Health and Wellbeing program launched an exciting new project this season – Bowling with Babies.
Bowling with Babies is a participation program designed for and exclusive to new and expecting mums of all skill levels.
Women’s sport in Victoria received a huge boost in October, with VicHealth announcing $6.7 million in funding to 19 sporting organisations including Bowls Victoria to get more Victorian women and girls healthy and active over the next three years.
Bowling with Babies provides a safe, comfortable environment for new mums to get out of the house, meet other mums, enjoy a gentle game of bowls and coffee. The family friendly environment of bowls clubs is a perfect location for a non-competitive physical activity specifically designed to fit the needs of new mums.
The program has been an immediate success with nearly 100 mums and bubs taking part across three weeks at four of our member clubs. Click here for our infographic for more about the program.
Bowls Victoria would like to thank Highton Bowls Club, Lilydale Bowls Club, Auburn Bowls Club and Dandenong Club for their enthusiasm and support as early adopters of the program. Each club worked closely with Bowls Victoria to ensure their facilities were welcoming to the mums and bubs and provided volunteers who displayed what a welcoming, fun, family environment Bowls clubs can be.
If you are reading this and you know a parent who would love to take part in this program starting again in the New Year, or you yourself want to get involved you can register your interest by getting in touch with our Participation team at participation@bowlsvic.org.au
Bowling with Babies will return in February at these sites and a handful of new locations across Victoria.
Keep your eyes peeled on Bowls Victoria’s Social Media feeds to find out where they are as we move into the second stage of the program.
