Late prizemoney boost for Steller Vic Open

The 2017 Steller Victorian Open has had a last-minute prizemoney boost on the eve of the event kicking off in Shepparton.

The Open will feature nearly $48,000 prizemoney, up from $42,000 last year.

This is due to the late signing of leading medium density property developer Steller as the naming rights sponsor of the Open, which commences on Saturday, November 18 and continues through to Friday, November 24.

Bowls Victoria President Barbara Gilbert said prizemoney would now be paid down to the round of 16, now making a total of $47,920 in prizemoney on offer.

In previous years, prizemoney has only been paid down to the quarter-finalists.

“It’s really exciting because we’re giving back to the people who play,” she said.

“The Vic Army has spread the word far and wide about how great the Steller Vic Open is, and got more grassroots bowlers to enter. We have so many bowlers entered who are new to the event.”

A record 1,681 entries and 2,949 competitors will take part in the Steller Vic Open.

Men’s and women’s singles competition kicks off the event on Saturday, November 18, at 18 venues around Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley.

Men’s and women’s pairs and triples, and mixed pairs, will also feature at the event.

The Steller Vic Open finals will commence on Wednesday at Shepparton Park Bowls Club.
