Victoria has finished the 2017 National Multi-Disability Bowls Championships at Raymond Terrace in NSW with two gold medals and three bronze.

Sebastopol’s Josh Barry finished the event with two gold medals – winning his singles event and teaming with Ken Hanson (City Bowls Club Colac) and Lucas Protopapas (Mulgrave Country Club) for gold in the men’s triples.

Barry then added a bronze medal with Protopapas in the men’s pairs – winning the final by a single shot.

It wasn’t his only tense final – the B7/8 singles final win coming over South Australian Chris Flavel 21-18 in another thriller.

In the singles, Hanson also won bronze for Victoria, defeating fellow Victorian Ross Higgins (Shepparton Park) in that playoff.

The other bronze medal for the Vics came from Mulgrave Country Club’s Alison Meakin and Janet Morrison in the women’s pairs.

Victorian coach Carol Protopapas was thrilled with the team’s all-round performance at a hotly contested nationals.

“The Vic team played exceptionally well. The Vics seemed to be the ones to beat in pretty much every event. The competition is of a really high standard, and year to year it just seems to be getting stronger.”

For Victoria’s bowlers with a disability, the stellar nationals performance caps off a big month after Barry and Protopapas won the Victorian State Multi-Disability Pairs title, and Hanson the singles title.
