2017 National Sides – Day 3

by Team BV

Queensland have beaten Victoria to secure their 10th women’s Australian Sides Championship, and virtually extinguished the hopes of Victoria’s men.
The Queensland women secured the Marj Morris Trophy with a 66-59 win over Victoria, whose unbeaten run at National Sides came to a spectacular halt with two defeats on day three at Lockleys Bowling Club in Adelaide.
After winning their first four matches, Victoria’s women were hammered by NSW in the morning match by 51 shots. Then Queensland finished the job with their win over the Vics.
Victoria’s men experienced the highs and lows in their day three action. First the reigning Alley Shield champions pulled off an extraordinary one-shot win over New South Wales. Big-match specialist Matthew Flapper delivered the money shot with his final bowl to clinch a 48-47 win for the Vics.
Then the Vics lost by a single shot to Queensland in the afternoon.
Tasmania and South Australia now are one win clear of Victoria with one match remaining. Victoria would have to beat Tasmania comprehensively in their final match on day four, then hope other results go their way to give life to their very slim mathematical possibility of winning the Alley Shield.
