2017 National Sides – Day 1

by Team BV

Victoria’s women are off to a flyer on day one of the National Sides Championships in Adelaide.
But it was an opening day mixed bag for Victoria’s men as they attempt to defend their national title – losing their opening match but winning their second at Lockleys Bowling Club.
The Victorian women beat hosts South Australia 75-51 in their opener, before a 41-shot trouncing of Western Australia in their afternoon match.
They have powered to the top of the ladder after day one of the 2017 tournament – the Victorians and Queensland both undefeated.
Also helping Victoria’s flying start was reigning champions New South Wales failing to win on day one – a draw and a loss their haul on the day.
Victoria’s men were upstaged by the host state 61-55 in the first match, before getting things back on track with a 23-shot win over Western Australia later in the day.
Each team plays the other once in the four-day round-robin tournament for the eight States and Territories, which continues through to Sunday, April 9.
