Northern Flyers go back-to-back
The Northern Flyers have gone back to back in the annual Junior Development Squad Tournament and taken home the Flapper Family Shield at Daylesford Bowling Club.
On a perfect 25 degree day, Daylesford ran the 12th squad tournament which was well represented by squads across the Bowls Victoria area, and the participating juniors provided a fantastic bowls display from start to finish.
The Flyers won through their section by defeating the Ballarat Gold Diggers and Western Warriors as well as a composite Squad team.
They then came up against the newly named Yarra Vipers, who won through their section on shot difference against the West Gippsland Lightning.
The final was a tight contest.
But Northern Flyers ultimately had the final say behind some great bowls from Victoria representative pair Mikayla Long and Lisa Trewarne, as well as Cooper Wescombe, Ethan Higgins and captain Blake Andrews, who sealed the deal for the Flyers, winning 27-18.
The squads also represented on the day were the: Western Warriors, Ballarat Gold Diggers, Bendigo Dragons and Geelong Giants.
Thank you again to the Daylesford Bowling Club for their facility and lunch as well as tournament directors Steve Sullivan and Gerry Flapper for putting on a great event.
All Junior Development Squads now turn their attention to Melbourne Bowling Club, and the inaugural Doug Kneebone Open Fours Tournament, taking place on Saturday April 22.
Junior Development Squads are located right across Victoria and are always looking for keen, new bowlers!
