Fitzroy Victoria’s Tiffany Brodie is chasing a third successive State Under 25 women’s singles crown, after setting up a rematch of last year’s final against Wodonga’s Kylie Whitehead.
Brodie, from Northern Gateway region, and Whitehead (Ovens & Murray) have won their way through the State Under 25 sectionals at Sebastopol BC.
They will now play their final as part of 2017 State Champions Week in Bendigo from April 20 to 26.
Whitehead (pictured with sectional opponents – Victorian rep Steph Priest and Drouin’s Samantha Atkinson) lost to Brodie 25-14 in last year’s final.
Atkinson’s appearance and strong performance in the State Under 25 tournament against two State players was remarkable considering she has only been playing for bowls for a few months.
In the men’s, State Under 25 representatives Jack Woodhouse (Bundoora RSL) and Nathan Lynch (Moonee Valley) will square off at State Champions Week in the final.
Both beat off quality opposition at Sebastopol to win through to the decider in Bendigo. Woodhouse knocked out State representative Matthew Higgins 25-8 in his semi-final, while Lynch beat defending champion Brad Foote 25-10 and Josh Rennex 25-18 in the semi.
