Ekera Dental Over 60 State Pairs
Ovens and Murray duo Paul Davies and Bob Harbridge are the 2016 Ekera Dental Over 60 State Pairs men’s champions.
Davies (skip) and Harbridge, from Wodonga BC, defeated Peninsula Casey region’s representatives Stan Sliwinski and Barry Brady (Hastings) in the men’s final 23-12 at Yarraville Footscray Bowling club.
Played in changing conditions – with strong winds, bright sunshine and overcast skies all on show during the two-hour match – the Wodonga duo took control of the match early with a couple of good ends.
They never relented – eventually having enough margin without the final end of the 15 scheduled having to be played.
Harbridge and Davies beat Sandbelt duo Graeme Spencer (Caulfield Park Alma) and Graeme Rodgers (Beaumaris) 15-10 in the morning semi, while the Hastings pair beat Ocean Grove’s Owen Clark and Ken Thomas representing Geelong region 16-9 in their semi-final.
The women’s final was a tense affair – Gillian Horlock (Vermont South) and Gordana Baric (Mulgrave Country Club) representing Eastern Ranges running out 21-17 winners over Betty Cozens and Elsie Bardell of Horsham City BC/Wimmera Region.
Horlock and Baric beat Lakes Entrance duo Christine Kool and Valma Collins in their semi. The Wimmera pairing beat Margaret Robinson and Di Gardner (Mildura BC/Murray Mallee) 20-5 in the morning semi-final.
Bowls Victoria thanks Yarraville Footscray Bowling Club for hosting the tournament, and for all those who competed and travelled to watch their bowlers compete.
One of the best efforts was a busload from Warragul Bowling Club who came to follow their bowlers Kerrie Currie and Pat Hammond on the opening day.
