Bowls Premier League – Event Wrap-up
Two Victorian teams in the top four, and one in the final.
But the 2016 Bowls Premier League (BPL04) was a case of so close, but yet so far for the Murray Steamers as they were defeated by the Sydney Lions for the championship trophy at Club Pine Rivers in Brisbane.
The Steamers (Ryan Bester, Michael Walker and Ellen Ryan) had beaten the Lions in the preliminary final in a tie-break.
But the Lions (Aron Sherriff, Ben Twist and Karen Murphy) won the match that counted.
Bester was however named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player to salvage something for the Steamers, who are based out of Moama Bowling Club.
The Melbourne Roys (Aaron Wilson, Dylan Fisher and Tiffany Brodie) also made the top four, but lost to the Adelaide Endurance in the knockout final.
It was heartbreaking for the Roys, who held the match in the final end before the Endurance’s Max Kleinig tailed the jack from a difficult position for victory.
The Roys are based out of inner-Melbourne bowls club Fitzroy Victoria.
