Ekera Dental Over 60 State Singles – Day 1
The semi-finalists for the 2016 Ekera Dental Over 60 State Singles at Ocean Grove have been decided, with Ian Ross and Marilyn Stephenson continuing their great Victorian Open form to lead the charge.
Ross, who made the mixed pairs final at the Vic Open, beat Tom Ristic (MCC Kew/Yarra) 21-16 in his men’s singles round of 16 match on Day 1. Then the Bendigo BC/Bendigo Campaspe bowler beat Wangaratta’s Greg McDonald (Wangaratta/Ovens & Murray) 21-10 in the quarters to set up a men’s semi-final clash with Essendon/Northern Gateway’s Terry Ryan.
Moama Bowling Club’s Stephenson, who made the women’s singles semis and women’s pairs final at Shepparton, was also in strong form on Day 1 of the Women’s Over 60 State Singles.
She beat Terri Murphy (Bundoora RSL/Yarra) and Ann McCarthy (Caulfield Park Alma/Sandbelt) to advance to a semi-final against the host club’s Joan Tennent.
Defending women’s champion Edna Anderson bowed out in the quarter-finals to Joy McGrath (Portland), who plays Marg Menner (Maffra) in the other semi-final on Day 2.
