Victorian Over 60 sides announced
Over 60s State women’s singles champion Edna Anderson and Victoria’s overall men’s singles champion Philip Thorn headline two strong Victorian sides bound for the 2016 Australian Senior Sides Championships in Perth.
Anderson (Warracknabeal Golf) has been named in the four skipped by current Victorian open representative Gayle Edwards (Altona).
They are among a Victorian team featuring several members of the Women’s Region Sides championship-winning Bendigo Campaspe outfit.
Thorn (City of Echuca) won the 2016 State open men’s singles final during State Champions Week in April, and has just recently become eligible for the Victorian Over 60s side.
Not surprisingly, that prompted an immediate call-up for the State men’s champion.
Thorn’s inclusion further strengthens a Victorian outfit which won the 2015 Australian Senior Sides Men’s Championship in Tasmania and is bound for Perth to defend its title.
David Donaldson (Moonee Valley), Ian Ross (Bendigo) and Raymond Jansen (MCC Kew) have been named as Victoria’s skips.
Donaldson is a late replacement for Wodonga’s Ashley Bates, who was a late withdrawal from the side after breaking a bone in his foot.
The 2016 Australian Senior Sides Championships will be played at Osborne Park Bowling Club in Perth from October 10 to 13.
