State team selected for Multi-Bowl
Bowls Victoria take great pride in their state sides.
And although the upcoming Australian Sides Championships has been on the agenda for quite some time, we’re pleased to announce the State Team of Bowlers with a Physical Disability selected to represent Victoria at the upcoming 2016 Multi-Bowl National Championships in Adelaide.
The squad is pleased to welcome Jo Boland (Yarra Glen) and DJ Weaver (Moulamein) who will both be making their debut.
DJ, at just 16, impressed at the trials last Sunday at Fitzroy Victoria BC and will be supported and mentored by Josh Thornton (East Shepparton) in the Pairs.
Alison Meakin and Janet Morrison (both Mulgrave Country Club) are returning once again, thrilled to have a third female representative joining the squad.
After their recent run of success at last year’s Multi-Disbilities Championships, and further success on the international stage at the World Cerebral Palsy Games, Josh Barry (Sebastopol) and Lucas Protopapas (Heatherdale) are both returning to the side.
Other notable inclusions include Ken Argent (Alexandria) and Tim Slater (Fitzroy Victoria), Ken returning to the side after debuting last year and Tim one of the more experienced members of the side having represented Australia at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Full team:
Lucas Protopapas
Joshua Barry
Joshua Thornton
Dylan-Jack Weaver
Tim Slater
Ken Argent
Alison Meakin
Janet Morrison
Jo Boland
Tim Connelly (Emergency)
State Coach Nicole Shortis says: “This is the biggest side we’ve ever had competing, with nine players. I’m very excited about two new players getting to experience the nationals and the comradeship they will experience.
“It opens up a world of opportunity for bowlers with a disability to possibly one-day represent their country around the world!’
Bowls Victoria would like to thank Fitzroy Victoria BC for their generous support in hosting the trials.
The 2016 Multi-Bowl Nationals will take place at Clearview BC in Adelaide, from May 22-27.
