Media Statement – Disciplinary Hearing Outcome

MEDIA STATEMENT
 
 
       The Bowls Victoria Disciplinary Committee held a disciplinary hearing in Melbourne on Wednesday, March 23 to hear matters arising from a Bendigo Bowls Division Pennant A1 Preliminary Final between Bendigo BC and Eaglehawk BC on Saturday, March 5.
   
       Players Tim Arnold (Bendigo) and Leigh Thurwood (Eaglehawk) were found guilty of a number of offences arising from an incident during the 19th end of the match.
 
      Tim Arnold was found guilty of:
 
·         Acting in a threatening and intimidating manner by making unnecessary avoidable contact with an opponent
·         Acting in an unsportsmanlike manner
·         Acting in a manner likely to bring the sport of bowls into disrepute
·         Acting in a manner likely to bring Bowls Victoria into disrepute
 
 
Tim Arnold has been suspended from bowls competition until October 31, 2016, with a further 12-month suspended sentence (good behaviour bond) to run from that date. The suspended sentence would only be invoked in the event of a breach of disciplinary rules during that time.
 
     Leigh Thurwood was found guilty of
 
·         Acting in a threatening and intimidating manner by punching an opponent in the face
·         Acting in an unsportsmanlike manner
·         Acting in a manner likely to bring the sport of bowls into disrepute
·         Acting in a manner likely to bring Bowls Victoria into disrepute
 
 
Leigh Thurwood has been suspended from bowls competition until November  30, 2016, with a further 12-month suspended sentence (good behaviour bond) to run from that date. The suspended sentence would only be invoked in the event of a breach of disciplinary rules during that time.
