Luckily, Victoria Troster brought her A-game to go with her late note.
Clayton Bowls Club powered to 2015-16 Taylor Bowls Midweek Premier Division grand final glory on the back of some heroics from Victorian rep Troster’s rink as the Clays ran out 74-62 winners over Lalor at Doncaster Bowling Club.
Troster arrived slightly late for the Midweek Metropolitan Pennant decider – a 5am start to put in some hard work on her thesis putting her under some pressure to get to Doncaster by start time.
But as play got under way, in came Troster, and she made up for lost time on arrival.
Her rink’s 32-11 victory was pivotal in a great team performance by Clayton.
Minus their Australian representative Carla Krizanic on World Cup duty, Clays teammates Troster and Mary-Anne Spizer stepped up as winning skips – Spizer a 25-19 winner over Gayle Edwards.
Lalor’s Brooke Edwards beat Clayton’s Kelly McKerihen 32-17.
After an early arm-wrestle, Clayton took an eight-shot lead to the lunch break.
But the Clays exploded after lunch, grabbing a 20-shot lead at one stage before Lalor reeled them back to 12 by match’s end.
In the Division 1 Midweek Women’s Pennant also played at Doncaster, Sunbury won their round-robin clash against Edithvale 74-46 to secure a flag.
