Bowler joins team at Arthritis Vic
MOVE with Bowls ambassador Gail Page has scored a new role as Arthritis and Osteoporosis Victoria’s (AOV) Community Fundraising and Peer Support Coordinator.
Gail is an active Bowls Victoria affiliated member, and is also currently working as the High Performance Strategy and Development Sports Coach for St Kilda Sports Club.
“We are thrilled to welcome Gail to our team. Already she is a familiar face to our organisation as the star of our MOVE with Bowls program with Bowls Victoria. Now Gail will be utilising her bowls experience as part of her new job looking after our Peer Support Groups and Community Fundraising program,” said Jodie Harrison, Manager Marketing & Communications, Arthritis and Osteoporosis Victoria.
There will be spin-offs for Victorian bowls clubs as part of Gail’s new role.
Gail will be responsible for liaising with AOV’s 55 self-help groups located throughout Victoria, including connecting them to their local bowls clubs.
These Peer Support Groups hold regular meetings to hear talks from health experts, share information and provide emotional support to one another.
“Being part of a Peer Support Group is similar to being part of a bowls club. It’s all about shared experience, support, and doing things you enjoy together. MOVE with Bowls is also about attracting new members for the clubs and Peer Support Groups,” said Gail.
“As club coach, I work closely with people to improve their technique and mindset for their best bowling experience.
“My greatest joy is to see a bowler learn and put into practice new ideas for their success and enjoyment of a wonderful game.
“There’s a nice synergy with my coaching and my new role at Arthritis and Osteoporosis Victoria where I will be helping the one-in-three people with muscle, bone and joint conditions to live healthier, more active lives and enjoy the benefits this brings.
“Exercise lifts the spirit for a healthy mind, body and soul. I am looking forward to introducing some Peer Support Groups to the great game of bowls and also helping current Bowls Victoria members to MOVE with Bowls,” she said.
