Happy 60th birthday, Whittlesea BC

by Team BV

The future was mapped out. The past was celebrated.
Whittlesea Bowls Club’s 60th anniversary celebration was a day to remember, with 125 members and guests packing the club rooms for the occasion.
President Ross Owen welcomed members and guests and spoke about the changes that had occurred over the past 10 years – the club moving from the Country League to Metropolitan and the amalgamation of the men’s and ladies’ committees.
Board chairman Geoff Aldous outlined the future of the club and revealed plans for extensions to facilities.
Andy Smith, chairman of Northern Gateway region, addressed those there and presented a certificate on behalf of Bowls Victoria.
During the afternoon, the Life Members of the club were honoured and foundation member Irene Owen and Ceta Beattie (Life Member) cut the cake.
Recognition was also paid to club champions with the presentation of medallions and women who contributed service to the club, including Past Lady Presidents, received floral tributes.
To mark the occasion, committeeman David Lindsay wore his Uncle Keith’s hat, jacket, pants and shirt with brown shoes and carried the original leather bowls bag of his grandfather Allan Lindsay, a foundation member.
Whittlesea BC’s 60th Anniversary Planning Committee organised the day, and certainly put on a day to remember.
