Victorian Disability Bowls Programs
Bowls Victoria is currently partnered with several disability organisations across Victoria to help promote lawn bowls to people with all types of disabilities.
Whilst delivering disability programs, our main focus is to give people of all abilities the opportunity to participate in the sport of lawn bowls, however they feel appropriate. This may be something as simple as just going out on the green for a social bowl, playing pennant for your local club or it may mean representing your state or country.
Elite pathways are in place for those who wish to follow that path, with four Victorian Squads represented for Blind, Deaf, Intellectually Disabled (VICSRAPID) and Physically Disabled (DSR).
These squads have regular training days at various clubs across Victoria to help promote inclusive practices and disability awareness within clubs and local communities. They also compete in state and national championships across Australia.
Something new to Bowls Victoria is a Special Developmental Schools Program which has been running in the Western Region for several years by the local AAA Officers in the Western Region. Bowls Victoria partnered with these organisations in 2010 and will continue to do so in the future.
It is anticipated that a similar program will be developed in each region in the near future.
Our programs are delivered in many ways, depending on the target audience and their requirements, availability of appropriate venues, etc.
If any organisations, clubs or individuals wish to be involved in a program targeting disability groups, contact Bowls Victoria on 9819 6177 or email development@bowlsvic.org.au
