Under 18 RVBA State Side Profiles
Dylan Fisher (Clayton BC)
Dylan started playing bowls at the age 10 at the Mt Eliza Bowls Club. At 11 years old he won the Mt Eliza club singles championship and repeated the feat the following year. In season 2007-08 Dylan moved to the successful Clayton Bowls Club and played in their Pennant winning Division 1 side alongside his stepfather, State and Australian representative, Todd Simmons and defeated him to take out the Clayton Singles championship – age 13. Dylan won silver & bronze medals at the 2007 Australian Junior Championships. Teaming with Ben McArthur he won pairs gold at the 2008 nationals. He won pairs silver at the 2009 Nationals. In March 2009 he was selected in the 4-player Under 18 Australian side to play against New Zealand. Dylan first represented Victoria at the 2006 Australian Junior Championships. Following the 2009 Australian Junior Championships he had played 80 games as a junior for the State.
Mathew Rennex (Moonee Valley BC)
Mathew commenced bowling when aged 11 with the encouragement of his father. Mathew skips in his Division 1 side in metropolitan pennant. In season 2007-08 he skipped the winning team in the RVBA Under 18 Triples Championship. Mathew was a member of the State Junior Development Squad in 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10. He won Triples bronze at the 2008 Australian Junior Championships and Fours gold in 2009. Following the 2009 Australian Junior Championships Mathew had played 40 representative games.
Dane McKinnon (Werribee RSL BC)
Dane played in the Division 1 pennant side during season 2008-09 and 2009-10 for the Werribee RSL Bowls Club. He was 10 years old when he took up bowls and at that time was recommended as a potentially elite junior bowler. He was encouraged to play the game by his father, who also plays at Werribee. In season 2007-08, 2008-09 & 2009-10 Dane was a member of the State Junior Development Squad. He played for the Victorian Under 18 side against the ACT in 2007 and against Tasmania in 2008.
Ethan Pell (Yarra Glen)
Ethan transferred from Croydon to Yarra Glen at the start of the 2008-09 season and plays in that club's Premier Division side. Whilst at Croydon he was a winner in the Club’s triples and fours championships. Ethan came to bowls at age 9, with the encouragement of his grandparents and has been an invitee to RVBA Under 18 selection trials since 2005 and was a member of the State Junior Development Squads in 2007-08, 2008-09 & 2009-10. The test series against Tasmania in December 2008 was his first representative opportunity.
Tom Vernon (Swan Hill Racecourse BC)
Keen followers of Under 18 bowls in the state will remember the disappointment shown by Tom and his pairs partner when the nine year-olds lost their first post sectional match in the RVBA Under 18 Pairs. He bounced back the next year reaching the quarter-finals. Tom was runner-up in the RVBA Under 18 Singles in 2006. His grandparents took him to a Friday night junior competition which was his initiation to the game. He has been a member of the first three State Junior Development Squads and his representation in Victoria's Under 18 side against South Australia in 2009 was his first.
Liam Garlick-Adams (Neerim District BC)
Liam plays in his Club's top side and was outstanding in the side's efforts at the 2008 Division 2 State Pennant Championship. In season 2008-09 he won the Gippsland round of the Victorian Under 30 Singles. He is a former member of the Gippsland Sports Academy bowls program. In December 2009 he played his first Under 18 representative games against Tasmania.
Joshua Rudd (Wodonga BC)
Josh started playing bowls in 2007 at Ocean Grove BC. He was a member of the Victorian Junior Development Squad in 2009-10. He played his first Under 19 representative games for Victoria against ACT in December 2009.
Tom Van Vugt (Warragul BC)
Tom plays lots of bowls - whenever he gets the chance. Much of his open tournament experience has been playing with his father and paternal grandfather. He plays in his club's Division 1 pennant side and was a member of the Gippsland Sports Academy's bowls program. In December 2009 he played for Victoria against the ACT.
Christopher Watt (Lalor BC)
Chris has been playing bowls for 8 years. In 2008 he was a quarter finalist in his club's singles championship, and won his section of the Victorian Under 18 Singles. He plays in his club's top pennant side. His games for Victoria against the ACT in December 2009 were his first representative games.
James Robertson (Warracknabeal BC)
James has played bowls for 5 seasons, the last 4 in his club's Division 1 side. In season 2008-09 he played in the Wimmera side at the RVBA Group Sides Championship. In January 2009 he won his Club Championship. He played his first games in the Victorian Under 18 side in December 2009.
Winston Brackley (Drysdale BC)
Winston plays in his Club's Division 1 side as a well-regarded lead. He is a confident, determined bowler. In seasons 2008-09 and 2009-10 he was a member of the State Junior Development Squad. His first games in the Victorian Under 18 side were in January 2010 in the series against South Australia.
Ryan Davies (Whittlesea BC)
Ryan has competed in a number of junior events in the recent seasons. He is a member of the Central Explorers Junior Development Squad. He plays in his club's top pennant side. His first representative games for Victoria were against South Australia in January 2010.
James Federico (Strathmore BC)
In recent seasons James has played as a 3rd in his club's Division 2 side. In 2007 he was a quarter-finalist in the Victorian Under 18 Pairs. He played great bowls to be a sem-finalist in the 2009 Under 18 Open Singles. He is a member of the Northern Flyers Junior Development squad. He first represented Victoria against South Australia in January 2010.
