2015 International Day

by Team BV

Hungary, Croatia and Greece. Not normally nations you’d associate with lawn bowls, but Bowls Victoria’s International Day is like no other on our calendar.
Celebrating multiculturalism and diversity within our great sport, bowlers who take part are encouraged to represent their nation or a bowling mate’s country of origin, come in national dress or national colours, and enjoy a fun and competitive day of bowling.
The 2015 event was held at Mulgrave Country Club, with 14 nations represented among the 34 teams taking part.
Four teams won all three of their matches, but Hungary (Stephen Cunningham, Mik Tuz, Stephen Staff and skip David Taylor) won the overall tournament.
They beat Cyprus B, Canada and Cyprus A – all of whom won their three matches on the day.

There were also prizes for best first game winner – Australia D with +14, best second game winner – Greece D with +14, and best third game winner – Croatia A with +26.
International Day also featured Bowls Victoria’s launch of the MOVE with Bowls program in conjunction with our charity partner Arthritis and Osteoporosis Victoria. MOVE with Bowls is designed to promote lawn bowls and our clubs to those suffering bone, joint and muscle problems – urging them to take up lawn bowls to stay healthy and manage their problems.
The program provides benefits to both clubs and existing members, as well as potentially bringing many new people into bowls.
