2016 Mildura May Carnival

by Team BV

Mildura’s 83rd May Carnival attracted over 200 entries from more than 40 bowls clubs around Victoria, South Australia and NSW.
Melbourne-based bowlers dominated the week with MCC’s Ben Winther and Scott Mejean combining to win the marquee Baden Williams Classic Pairs and the Markwell Toyota Rio Vista Fours.
Teammates Michael Gardiner and Colin Hall chipped in to help out with the Rio Vista win over the highly fancied South Australian Grange combination of John Nicolai, Carl Schapel, Peter Raisin and Darren Niblett.
Oakleigh South’s Darren Turnbull and Elsternwick’s Kevin Heagney dominated the Championship Pairs on day one defeating the local combination of Mike Legin Sr and Peter Bishop in the final.
Not to be outdone, the dynamic duo caped up again on Wednesday to claim the Sets Play Pairs on a points decision over Encounter Bay’s Barry Hamilton and Worker’s Peter Bishop.
The triples team of Sam Pupillo, Arthur Brown and Ron Bannister (Mildura Workers) flew the flag for the home nations when they took out the Rotational Tuesday Triples.
Wentworth’s Rob Mortimer, Ron Archer and Ron Pope finished second by a solitary point.
